Second Pharmacy Internship Symposium organized by Pharmacy College, Qassim University
The College of Pharmacy was established on 01/18/1426 AH with all the components of academic structure to fulfill the demands of and to support the Saudi community and its healthcare system at international standards. The College of Pharmacy, Qassim University, aims to advance health services in the Kingdom by preparing competent pharmacists, who will be able to keep pace with the ongoing developments in the healthcare sector. The college has excellent infrastructure, facilities and learning resources necessary for practical and theoretical applications in all four departments.
Moreover, the strategic locations of the University campuses benefit from the proximity of government and private hospitals, where student have a wide range of opportunities for clinical training in tertiary care centers around Buraidah city and beyond. Despite its young age, College of Pharmacy has rapidly advanced in quality of education and professional training of students enrolled in the Pharm.D program. As a relatively new institution that is in the early stages of its evolution, we are in a constant process of improving our infrastructure, facilities, faculties and student enrolment. As part of our learning process, we are in contact with International Advisory Groups such as American College of Clinical Pharmacists (ACCP) to improve the quality of the program. Also, we have a contact with King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center (KFSH-RC) in Riyadh for the same purpose. Under this contract, our students got training at KFSH-RC for advanced pharmacy practice experiences. In addition, KFSH-RC staff is involved in teaching some course such as pharmacotherapy during the program. In addition to that, the college has an Advisory Board compose of expert pharmacists from different pharmacy fields their main purpose is to provide advices for improvement of the program. The APPE Program of the College of Pharmacy, Qassim University has been designed to integrate practical skills and experience with knowledge gained during the undergraduate degree. Drawing upon lifelong learning skills, interns will continually build upon this base throughout their professional career as a professional and competent pharmacist. This APPE Program assist the interns in detection and management of drug-related problems and for promoting safe and effective rational drug therapy.
The APPE Program is prepared to provide academically supervised clinical experiences which will impart students to scientifically updated and appropriate methods of collecting and applying clinical information concerning the safety and efficacy of drugs.8577993085
The APPE Program is designed to prepare interns for a successful career as a professional and ethical pharmacist with the ability to think critically and apply knowledge and skills in the best interest of patients regarding individualized pharmacotherapy planning, intervention and outcome evaluation. The clinical experiences imparted on interns by well qualified and experienced preceptors will help the interns to choose their clinical specialty, to continue successfully in their life-long learning and practice and to meet their responsibilities as a health care practitioner for the overall benefit of patients and other health care professionals. D. program to develop skills to provide pharmaceutical care in the real world setting. Stage 1. Reading patient files
Understanding the chief complaints, medication history, medical history, and SOAP. Understanding pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatment.
Stage 2. Taking patient history
Demonstrate verbal and non-verbal communication skills. Complete history of patient.
Stage 3. Provide patient counselling
Effectively counsel the patient about discharge medications.
